Suriname is at a turning point in its development trajectory, with education and skills positioned at the center of a more sustainable, inclusive, and diversified path for growth. In this context, the conference Investing Today, Transforming Tomorrow: Unlocking Human Capital as the Engine for Growth in Suriname, co-hosted by the Government of Suriname and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), marked an important milestone, reaffirming human capital as a key driver of long-term prosperity, resilience, and economic diversification.
The first phase of the conference, held in Paramaribo on April 89, 2026, brought together government authorities, educators, youth leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and international experts to explore how strengthening human capital can support the country's long-term aspirations.
Drawing on international experiences, youth voices, and national dialogue, this publication captures the conferences main insights to inform Surinames efforts to develop a ten-year national vision for human capital development and a five-year action plan. It aims to support a nationally led process to define priorities, build consensus, and translate ambition into action.
By bringing together global knowledge and local perspectives, this publication seeks to contribute to Surinames efforts to place human capital at the center of its long-term development strategy.
