This document presents the Opportunity for the Majority Development Initiative, which was launched in June 2006. Under the Initiative, the IDB is working with the private sector and civil society to support innovative, practical, market based solutions to persistent problems for the poor in Latin America and the Caribbean, such as access to housing, basic infrastructure, formal financial services, employment, business opportunities and modern technology. This bulletin describe how the IDB believes that the private sector can play a significant role in development, one that is driven not only by pro-profit motives, but also by pro-growth and pro-development ambitions.
