The IDB Cultural Center proposed that the Uruguay Cultural Foundation for the Arts, in Washington, D.C., organize a drawing contest and exhibition for Uruguayan artists, and also sponsored it financially. Uruguay has an important tradition in drawing. The selected jury chose a total of 25 works out of 170 entries which were displayed at the Embassy of Uruguay's Sala de las Artes. Rodrigo J. Castrillo N., Raquel Orzuy and Mario Raúl Perillo were awarded the top prizes; and Oscar Barroca, Robinson B. Gómez and Pablo Reyes received honorable mentions.
