| dc.description.abstract | This report provides a strategic framework for Latin American and Caribbean governments to harness the economic, technological, and environmental potential of the data center industry. As global demand for digital infrastructure accelerates, driven by cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things, Latin American and Caribbean countries are uniquely positioned to attract investment and become competitive players in the global digital economy. The report outlines how data center industry development can generate high-value employment, attract foreign direct investment, increase tax revenues, and strengthen national digital sovereignty. It also highlights the critical role of government leadership in addressing infrastructure gaps, streamlining regulatory frameworks, and enabling green and resilient digital infrastructure. Through global case studies, regional benchmarks, and actionable policy recommendations, the report provides a two-phase roadmap for public sector leaders to (1) engage stakeholders to validate findings and build consensus, and (2) implement national and regional strategies focused on infrastructure, talent development, sustainability, and public-private partnerships. This report is a call to action for governments in the region to lead the digital transformation by creating the enabling conditions to attract and sustain data center industry investment unlocking long-term economic growth, competitiveness, and digital resilience. |
