This study examines the key technological and economic innovations which are being developed in the global logistics and supply chain industry. It categorizes these innovations into automation; digitization; sustainability; blockchain and 3D Printing and provides examples and case studies of how innovations are already starting to transform economies and societies. The study discusses how government handling of the economic evolution and its societal and environmental consequences will be a critical factor in ensuring positive outcomes. It also examines the factors which could delay the adoption of industry innovations and the risks which this carries. The paper indicates the steps that will need to be taken to ensure that these innovations result in supply chains which by 2030 are inclusive, agile, customer-centric, efficient, sustainable and ethical as well as the prospects for achieving this result.
