This report examines the resource needs for mounting a comprehensive HIV/AIDS program in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and provides information on estimated changes in the cost of selected prevention, treatment and care interventions. In addition, it gives an estimate of the annual financing gap for HIV/AIDS programs in LAC. The report fills a gap in knowledge of region-specific cost estimates for HIV/AIDS, and provides a baseline for evaluating changes in the cost and priorities of HIV/AIDS pro-grams in LAC. The report was prepared based on input from LAC economists, and national AIDS program personnel, at two sub-regional workshops held in 2002, as well as a background report prepared by the Futures Group International and the Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica of Mexico.
