This paper discusses the regional and national sector prioritising initiatives that are part of the long-term overall strategic planning approach to advance economically and socially in the Caribbean countries. The discussion includes "top down" and "bottom up" initiatives that make up the strategic plans in the different countries. Priority sector strategies yield real results when they do have a strong niche focus within them built around a country's strengths --whether inherent or created by a huge investment into human capital and technology. In the authors' view, the true priority sector niches that the Caribbean countries should be focusing on are already being identified by the region's smart entrepreneurs, the people who are taking major risks to develop and expand their businesses.
