| dc.description.abstract | This is the first of two volumes that constitute the Annual Report of the Inter-American Development Bank. The two-volume report contains a review of the Bank's operations in 2010 (loans, guarantees, and grants) and, in a separate volume, Management's Discussion and Analysis: Ordinary Capital, and the financial statements of the Bank. By the end of 2010, the IDB had approved $197 billion in loans and guarantees to finance projects with investments totaling over $420 billion, as well as $4.1 billion in grants and contingent-recovery technical cooperation financing. Among other tasks, in early 2010 implementation began of the new integrated system of capital adequacy and portfolio analysis, which includes elements related to financial projections and asset and liability management. Throughout the year the Bank worked diligently in its core mission, collaborating with its borrowing member countries in addressing the Region's development agenda, focusing resources and technical expertise on assisting the neediest and most vulnerable. Following the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile and other natural disasters, the Bank approved country-specific relief and reconstruction operations. |
