Building Cities reviews the experiences of the Latin American and Caribbean region in the design and implementation of neighbourhood upgrading programmes. The volume has a particular focus on the lessons learned by specialists of the Inter-American Development Bank and their technical and managerial counterparts in the agencies that execute the loans granted for neighbourhood upgrading. This book analyses the different dimensions of the problems, discusses successful experiences in the region, and draws useful conclusions to help take on the challenges faced by cities of developing countries around the world. The volume is of interest to specialists in social and urban development, as well as to those who define the policies and design the programmes to improve the living conditions of the poor.
