| dc.description.abstract | La exposición constituyó la muestra más importante de pintura venezolana del siglo XIX ofrecida por primera vez en Washington, con obras de A.F. y Juan Lovera (época colonial), Lewis Brian Adams, Ferdinand Bellermann y Camille Pissarro (influencia extranjera, 1840-55), y Celestino Martínez y Martín Tovar y Tovar (época de transición, 1855-70). Entre los artistas académicos (1870-1919), se incluyeron Antonio Herrera Toro, Cristóbal Rojas, Arturo Michelena, y Emilio Boggio. Las obras son propiedad de la Galería de Arte Nacional de Venezuela, el Banco Central de Venezuela y la Colección Empresas Polar en Caracas.
