Many Caribbean nations are embracing knowledge-based and skill-intensive industries to expand their economies. The goal is to boost the competitiveness and productivity of the region's people through investments that lead to a better-educated workforce with more employable skills. This book examines policy and public financing strategies for education in Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. It is offered in the hope of stimulating further dialogue and reflection on strategic issues related to education financing and development performance. Based on an extensive review of sector and country-specific research conducted by the Bank between 1996 and 2001, the manuscript is very much the product of a team effort.
