AB  - Road traffic injuries are a leading cause of death and disability in Latin America. Nevertheless, road safety continues to rank low in national development priorities in the region. Estimates of the economic costs imposed by road traffic crashes on society can provide policy planners with an important indicator for allocating appropriate investments to road safety. Therefore, IDB conducted a review of methods and best practices reported in the health economics literature for assessing the economic burden of illness and injury.
