AB  - This paper provides an analysis of the organization of secondary schools in Latin America and the Caribbean. It deals with the confusing and controversial matters of providing schools for an increasingly heterogeneous clientele and the triple role of preparing students for higher education, forming solid citizens and offering training for those who will finish their schooling at this level.  New models and options are presented for replacing existing organizational structures in secondary education. This paper is one of the reports prepared as background for the development of the Bank's strategy on primary and secondary education.
