abstract = {This document explores how digitization and innovative construction methods represent an opportunity to promote sustainable construction in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and how some countries are beginning to make progress in this area.

It is structured in four main sections: an introduction; a classification of current solutions that promote sustainable construction; an analysis of initiatives, challenges, and good practices related to sustainable construction in Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, and Uruguay based on interviews with key stakeholders; and conclusions and recommendations to facilitate the transformation of the LAC construction sector into a sustainable, digitized, and resilient industry.

The document identifies six categories of enabling solutions for sustainable construction: advanced digital technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), sustainable design, sustainable materials, industrialized construction systems, environmental impact measurement and verification, and efficient management approaches. The interviews revealed 44 sustainable construction initiatives, mainly led by the government sector. Obstacles include cognitive gaps and institutional weaknesses, while driving factors include the impact of the pandemic and climate change.

Good practices such as international benchmarking, technical cooperation between institutions, and multilateral support are highlighted. Long-term public leadership, adequate incentives, and collaboration among the public, private, and academic sectors are crucial to achieving the transformation toward a sustainable and competitive construction industry in LAC.},
